Some years ago the owners of a custom home on the Legacy Golf Course gave us a call and wanted us to repair their cordless phones. I dropped by and as usual could not refuse a challenge. They had the original Panasonic KX-T7880 Proprietary cordless phone. Panasonic revolutionized the phone market when they introduced the KX-T7880 back in the late 90’s. The KX-T7880 had multiline capability in a cordless phone. Since then, many providers offer a multiline phone, Panasonic was first. Anyway the home owner wanted me to fix her phones. They had been discontinued for quite some time, and all I had were some old phones in our spares box. So I mixed and matched some parts, changed a couple of microphones, antennas and got some of them working again.
Well last week the home owner called again, saying she was down to one working cordless, she originally had seven in the home and had to have new phones. Anyway, I offered her the current replacement, and recommended against it. I also offered her the new Panasonic Portable Station that works with the KX-TDA/TDE/NCP and TAW-848 phone systems.
The price was double; however she got new cordless phones and a new cabinet that supported them. A smarter move in my opinion, since her original hardware was over 10 years old, it just did not make sense to invest so much in old hardware.
Long story short, they said, put in the new system. We did and now our customer has a new Panasonic KX-TDA50G with Caller ID and Portable Stations.
